DIGITAL INTERN

The summer after my junior year of college, I was thrilled to accept an internship with the MSLGROUP, one of the highest ranked public relations firms in the world. So that June, I took a 14 hour train ride from Savannah, GA to Washington, D.C. (I do not recommend) and unpacked my two suitcases into a tiny dorm room at George Washington University that I would share with a stranger (I do not recommend this either) for the rest of the summer.

As the Digital Intern at Qorvis MSLGROUP, I compiled weekly social listening reports, generated content calendars, updated influencer lists and learned a whole lot about agency life. I worked with clients like AAMCO, the National Safety Council, and the People's Republic of China. Oh, and I planned a really good office happy hour.

I got a taste of the "real world" that was supposedly waiting for me after graduation and… it was hard. I learned how it felt to be a little bit broke and a little bit lonely in a city that felt a little too big. And I realized that I was more than capable of handling it.

After a few weeks of blisters, I learned to walk to work in sandals and then change into heels. When I got back on that train at the end of the summer, it was with a newfound independence and confidence in myself. I would be ready for the real world whenever it was ready for me.
